The Cedar Rapids Museum of Art has chosen “The Dream”, an oil painting by Cedar Rapids artist Paul Marlow, to be part of the museum’s 2019 summer exhibition, Into The Blue. Juried by CRMA Associate Curator Kate Kunau, Into the Blue features work from artists all over the state of Iowa. The exhibit begins June 8, 2019.
From cerulean and azure to navy and indigo, the color blue has long inspired artists. Into the Blue celebrates the hue in both two and three-dimensional works across all media and examines how blue has been incredibly important to artists for centuries. The work on display was created by Iowa artists within the last three years and blue is the dominant color in each work.
The response to the Call for Entries for Into The Blue was overwhelming. Assistant Curator Jaci Falco said, “There were 486 entries for this juried exhibition, from 220 artists across the state of Iowa.” Only 81 works were chosen for the exhibit. Into The Blue is the first juried exhibition at the CRMA in 4 years.
