Geometric Abstraction is a different visual language, and departure from my realist work. I started Abstract IV on Feb 23, a day before the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I may have been inspired by the colors of the Ukrainian flag, as I transitioned the color palette from shades of blues and greens to blues and yellow/golds. Painting in an abstract style has always been much more difficult for me. However, just as you can learn to speak a different language, why not learn to paint in a different style? Why not be a bi-lingual painter? It’s all about Learning a New Artistic Language.

To create a work of art is to create the world. And creativity? Creativity is nothing but a mind set free. Art is something that makes you breathe with a different kind of happiness. Art is also a timekeeper. It’s a traveling message between humans across centuries.”

a Time-Lapse gallery

At the end of each painting session, Marlow takes a photo of his work. He uploads that photo to this website. He uses this technique as a way to study the work and consider what went well and what could be improved upon. Over time, these photos create a time-lapse gallery—you can see how each canvas evolved by clicking on any photo.
